Who is a Contemporary Learner?
How will the characteristics of our Gen Z learners depicted in the Meet GenZ video define their engagement in the traditional classroom snippet?
With a short
tension span and being hardwired from birth for multiskilling, more needs to be
done to capture and retain their attention. Involve their need to be proactive
within the local and wider community. We
are currently in the cycle of teaching how we were taught, and how our teachers
were taught. This model has titanic issues for the future generations.
If we do not evolve our teaching model internally, the teaching model
will stay the same. It maybe that GenZ will do this for us, if we do not teach
creativity out of them first.
Referring to
the ideas presented by Willis and Robinson, is this level of
creativity in evidence in the schools you have attended, both as a student, and
as a preservice teacher? Furthermore, is this level of creativity in evidence
in your University units? As secondary pre-service teaching students, you will
experience a variety of approaches to teaching, learning and course design in
your discipline studies. Why were your previous studies presented in that
particular way? How could they have been presented?
My learning style
is visual. I have to create my learning experiences at home by rewriting
lectures with pictures and coloured diagrams/text. University is stuck in rote learning, boring
lecturers stating facts, length slide shows.
All my units have catered for auditory learner. More need to be done to
be inclusive for all types of learning, be adaptable.
What do you
think the implications are of a curriculum that is linear, progressive, aimed
at a single learning outcome for the development of both individuals and the
society we live in?
Child care to pre-primary utilise the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) that is all about child based learning. Stimulating their mind and teaching them personal growth so they can function efficiently within society. Therefore creating a well rounded human being.
Then students move to primary school and are guided by the Australian Curriculum which is based on teaching students skills to get a job. Therefore creating robots.
These statements are very narrow minded.
Curriculum is the basis of what we have to achieve, but its our teaching pedagogy and teaching strategies that will get the students to be well adjusted, confident and skilled ready for both the workplace and the world.
How can ICTs help you in the development of a professional learning network? How are you feeling about this?
Networking utilising ICT can expand the possibility of local contacts to worldwide contacts. This sounds amazing to speak to anyone in the world.
Networking is
unsettling to me, it doesn't come easy.
ICT can open up many possibilities for teaching strategies. It has also opened up the possibilities for my workplace. It has renewed my enthusiasm to engage in the online world to stretch the reach of my workplace. I an only imagine what it will do for more teaching.
